Job Posting: Editorial Intern (Paid)

Red Line Editorial is looking for a part-time Editorial Intern to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals for the spring semester.

RLE creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking an Editorial Intern to assist in print and online editorial tasks for publishers and schools.

Duties will include:
–Photo research and caption writing
–Index creation
–Cross-checking page turns
–Proofreading and fact-checking
–Filing/organizing physical folders
–Administrative duties as assigned

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–College student working toward a BA in English, Communications or equivalent
–Relevant course work in English
–Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Google Apps
–Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
–Ability to work independently and in a team environment
–Excellent oral and written communication skills
–Proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition and MLA preferred

The internship is for up to 20 hours a week on-site in our Burnsville office from January through May, exact schedule TBD. The internship will be paid at a rate of $10/hour.

Job Posting: Digital Publishing Intern (Paid)

Red Line Editorial is looking for a Digital Publishing Intern to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals over winter break. This is a full-time, temporary position that would begin in late November or early December and last about four weeks.

RLE creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking a Digital Publishing Intern to assist in digital content support for educational resources. The Digital Publishing Intern would assist with tasks related to our hosted e-book platform, as needed.

Duties will include:
–Assist in adding content to websites
–Convert print books into e-books in several formats
–Create e-book products and accounts using our proprietary content management system
–Test various digital products on various devices
–Maintain meticulous records of e-books from different publishers
–Maintain clear file management for converted books and related metadata

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–College student working toward a BA in English, Communications, or other relevant field, or a recent graduate
–Interest in digital publishing and familiarity with e-books
–Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Google Drive and Adobe Acrobat
–Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress
–Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
–Ability to work independently and in a team environment
–Excellent oral and written communication skills

The internship is for 40 hours a week on-site in our south metro office starting in late November or early December and lasting about four weeks, exact schedule TBD. It includes a monthly stipend that calculates to $10/hour.

Red Line Editorial is looking for an Editor to join our high-energy team of publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K–12, but we also work in a number of other genres.

This is a position that will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our editorial projects. This position requires keen attention to detail and an ability to manage an involved editorial process.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including project management of assigned manuscripts, developmental edits, photo research and caption writing, oversight of the book development process from manuscripts through page layout and proof stages, collaboration with external authors and vendors, and other editorial duties. The editor will work on books and marketing materials. A library or education background is a plus.

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
— A four-year degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar. Degrees in other humanities fields, such as history, will also be considered.
— Two years of experience working on books and/or educational materials
— An ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients
— A tremendous attention to every last detail
— Talent to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality
— An ability to effectively handle a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
— An interest and willingness to learn about the full publishing process (both print and digital)

Red Line Editorial creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking a full-time Production Artist join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

Duties will include:
–Book production using established templates and styles
–Book layout using Adobe InDesign, including text formatting and image placement
–Inputting changes into InDesign files from marked-up printouts
–Manipulating and color-correcting images and graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator
–Creating charts, maps, or other graphical elements as assigned
–Collaborating with other members of our production team on templates and page turns

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
— A two-year or four-year degree in graphic design or like field
— One year of experience working on page production projects, particularly multiple-page publications
–Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients
–A tremendous attention to every last detail, including the ability to adhere to style and layout guidelines within a template, and maintain consistency across multiple files
–Talent to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality

Red Line Editorial is known for the high quality of the work we produce. The editorial assistant will play a key role helping our staff members maintain that reputation.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:

–Coordinate vendor relationships and assignments
–Maintain freelance-related documentation
–Receive and document manuscript submissions from authors; submit manuscripts to outside partners as needed
–FTP management (including file uploads to/from clients and file cleanup)
–Assist in maintaining the onsite library and tracking/record-keeping of missing copies
–Assist in routing and organizing author contracts
–Lead high-res photo downloads
–Perform editorial tasks as needed (photo research, caption writing, fact checking, index builds, proofreads, markup transfers, etc.)
–Other duties as required

Job Posting: Content Producers

Red Line Editorial, a leading producer of nonfiction and fiction books and digital products for the K-12 educational market, is currently seeking full-time Content Producers to join our growing editorial staff.

The best candidates will offer top-notch researching skills and a journalist’s sense for detail, accuracy, and speed, along with an ability to produce interesting content on a broad range of topics.

You’ll work with a team of editors, designers, content managers, and a senior management team that is focused on producing quality educational content.

These newly created positions will be primarily focused on research and writing but will include some other editorial tasks and may evolve to include some light page layout work as well.

Our Content Producers will fill an essential role on our staff. Duties will include:
— Researching topics across K-12 curriculum
— Writing book manuscripts and online posts on a broad range of topics, including science, math, history, geography, sports, and more, at a variety of lengths and reading levels
— Editing the work of other writer/editors
— Developmental editing and project management of assigned manuscripts, with oversight from other editors
— Other editorial duties, to include copy editing, fact-checking, photo research, proofreading, index creation

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–BA in Journalism (preferred), Communications, English, or equivalent
–Ability to write in a variety of styles and to match specifications provided for each project
