Job Posting: Graphic Design/Digital Intern (Paid)

Red Line Editorial is looking for a full-time Graphic Design/Digital Intern to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking a Graphic Design/Digital Intern to help with page production tasks, digital conversions, and digital order fulfillment for publishers and schools.

Duties will include:
–Manipulating and color-correcting images and graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator
–Book layout using Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud, following established templates
–Inputting changes into InDesign files from marked-up printouts
–Converting PDF eBooks in to an online eBook format
–Entering digital products in to our proprietary content management system
–Adding digital products to schools’ subscriptions, as directed
–Collaborating with our in-house production team on projects as assigned

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–A recent college graduate with a two-year or four-year degree in graphic design or like field
–Experience working on page production projects, particularly multiple-page publications
–Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients
–A tremendous attention to every last detail
–Talent to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality
–Ability to meet deadlines
–Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
–Knowledge and experience with CMYK printing process
–Knowledge of basic principles of color correction/photo aesthetics
–Familiarity with basic edit/proofreader marks
–A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic workplace with a wide variety of tasks

The internship is for 40 hours a week on-site in our Burnsville office from January through May. It includes a monthly stipend that calculates to $10/hour.

Job Posting: Production Editor

Red Line Editorial is looking for a full-time Production Editor to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality content for the educational market in a variety of media. We are seeking a Production Editor to assist in print and online editorial and production tasks for publishers and schools.

Our Production Editor will fill an essential role on our staff. Duties will include:
–Flowing text into book templates using Adobe InDesign
–Inputting changes into InDesign files from marked-up printouts
–Cross-checking page turns
–Developmental editing and project management of assigned manuscripts, with oversight from other editors
–Coordinating and communicating with authors, vendors, and clients on assigned projects
–Photo research, proofreading, fact-checking, index creation
–eBook conversions
–Administrative duties as assigned

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–BA in English, Communications or equivalent
–Strong computer skills, including Adobe InDesign experience
–Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
–Ability to work independently and in a team environment
–Excellent oral and written communication skills
–Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
–Familiarity with html preferred

Job Posting: Product Planning Manager

Red Line Editorial is looking for a Product Planning Manager to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

This position will give the right candidate the opportunity to help shape the product offerings of our educational publishing clients. A successful candidate would also be involved with providing direction and quality assurance on resulting manuscripts. This position requires keen attention to detail, strong knowledge of the educational publishing industry, and an ability to juggle multiple projects.

Red Line Editorial is known for the high quality of the work we produce for the educational market. The product planning manager will play a key role in maintaining that reputation.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:

–List development and concepting new series ideas for a variety of publishers
–Writing series proposals and specifications that include competitive product analysis and conformity with the Common Core State Standards and other national and state-level standards.
— Collaborating with our editorial staff to execute approved series ideas
–Shaping new series from the prototype phase
–Performing quality assurance reads on manuscripts submitted by internal editors
–Mentoring editorial staff members and assisting in decision-making to enhance their skills

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
— A four-year degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar
— Five years of experience working on books and/or educational materials geared toward a variety of grade levels
— Two years of product development experience in the publishing industry
— A broad understanding of the educational publishing industry
— An ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients

Red Line Editorial is looking for an Editor to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K-12, but we also work in a number of other genres.

This is a position that will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our editorial projects. This position requires keen attention to detail and an ability to manage an involved editorial process.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including project management of assigned manuscripts, developmental edits, photo research and caption writing, oversight of the book development process from manuscripts through page layout and proof stages, collaboration with external authors and vendors, and other editorial duties. The editor will work on books and marketing materials. A library or education background is a plus.

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:

–Maintaining meticulous records of e-books from different publishers
–Maintaining clear file management for converted books and related metadata

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–College student working toward a BA in English, Communications, Design, or other relevant field, or a recent graduate
–Interest in digital publishing and familiarity with e-books

This position will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our projects. This position requires keen attention to detail, great communication skills, and a proven ability juggle multiple projects.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:

–Coordinate vendor relationships and assignments
–Maintain/improve all freelance-related documentation
–Perform initial review of all manuscripts to ensure all pieces are in place; record and communicate manuscript submissions
–FTP management (including file uploads to/from clients and file cleanup)
–Maintain the onsite library and tracking/record-keeping of missing copies
–File ATOS and CIP (when required) manuscripts
–Manage author mailings for comp shipments and other mailings
–Lead high-res photo downloads
— Perform editorial tasks as needed (photo research, caption writing, fact checking, index builds, proofreads, markup transfers, etc.)
–Other duties as required
