Job Posting: Editorial Assistant

Red Line Editorial is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join our growing, high-energy team of publishing professionals.

This new position will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our projects. This position requires keen attention to detail, great communication skills, and a proven ability to juggle multiple projects.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K–12, but we also work in a number of other genres. Red Line Editorial is known for the high quality of the work we produce. The editorial assistant will play a key role helping our staff members maintain that reputation.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:

— Handling various editorial assistant tasks, such as organizing and maintaining book metadata and coordinating comp copy orders for authors and other vendors
— Finding and contacting experts to serve as content consultants on books
— Performing various editorial tasks, such as photo research, caption writing, fact checking, index builds, proofreads, markup transfers, etc.
— Performing office assistant duties as assigned, including light cleaning tasks and front desk coverage
— Performing other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
— A four-year degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar; degrees in other humanities fields, such as history, will also be considered
— An ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients
— A strong commitment to achieving deadlines in a fast-paced environment
— A tremendous attention to every last detail
— Talent to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality
— Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, FTPs, and Google Drive
— Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition and MLA
— Solid grammar skills

Location: A mix of remote work and working onsite in our Mendota Heights office. Please note: Only Minnesota residents or those willing to relocate to Minnesota will be considered.

Compensation: Low 30s, DOQ, plus benefits
